Chiropractic Adjustments

Joint manipulation is often referred to as an "adjustment". It is a manual technique that involves a controlled thrust a joint to restore its normal movement. The goal is to quickly improve joint mobility, lessen pain, and enhance nervous system function. It is characterized by a quick, controlled movement, and it often produces a “popping” sound, known as cavitation, which occurs when gas is released from the joint. Joint manipulation should only be used for joints that are restricted. This can include areas such as in the spine, hips, shoulders, and other joints to help patients regain normal movement and experience immediate relief from discomfort.

Joint Mobilization

Joint mobilization is a more gradual technique that involves slow, controlled movements or sustained pressure applied to a joint to improve its range of motion. Unlike joint manipulation, it doesn’t involve forceful thrusts and is generally used to reduce stiffness and increase flexibility in the joint. Patients often feel gentle stretching or rhythmic movements applied to the joint, without the cavitation sound. This technique is ideal for addressing stiff joints, helping with post-injury rehabilitation, and providing a gentler treatment approach for patients who may need a more cautious method to restore joint function.

Which One is Right For You?

It depends on your condition, comfort level, and treatment goals. Joint manipulation is often preferred for quick pain relief, while joint mobilization is a great option for those who need a gentler approach or are recovering from injury.

At Shaw Spine & Sport, we tailor treatments based on your needs—whether that means a precise adjustment or a gradual mobilization approach.

Comprehensive Care

Care in our office covers a wide variety of treatments and therapies to help patients who suffer from any form of pain or have been injured.

A common misconception about chiropractic care is that we only perform spinal adjustments when, in reality, it refers to a profession that focuses on the treatment and recovery of most musculoskeletal injuries.

At Shaw Spine & Sport, we have a team of providers who are trained in many different treatment techniques to address a wide variety of conditions. This includes the manipulation or mobilization, soft tissue (muscle) therapy, rehab and exercise plans, to name a few. We are specialists in conservative management of all injuries. We provide a natural alternative to recovery that is centered around movement, exercise, and hands-on therapy instead of surgical interventions or medications.

When should you seek care at Shaw Spine & Sport?

If you have been suffering from pain of any kind, we are a great place to begin your journey to recovery.

At Shaw Spine & Sport, every patient receives a thorough examination to determine the root cause of their pain. Due to our extensive examination process, we are able to help patients diagnose and address a wide variety of complaints. Many patients present after sustaining injuries from working out, participating in sports, or as the result of a car accident. Additionally, we are experts in treating pain that stems from less obvious sources such as postural disorders, poor workplace ergonomics, and others.

Each case is different. Everyone who receives care at Shaw Spine & Sport is put on a personalized treatment plan that is designed to maximize their recovery and help them return to what they love doing most. Treatment plans are created by utilizing a combination of the following tools: joint manipulation or mobilization, soft tissue treatment, rehab exercises, and if needed other modalities such as cold laser therapy and shockwave therapy.

What Our Patients Say

I came in for some low back pain with any front loading exercise. Dr. Shaw evaluated the area of pain, made some adjustments and recommended some stretching and rolling. All the while talked to me about what he was doing and explained the cause of the pain. The pain has all but really gone away, it is kind of amazing. I had a great experience.
