Abel Shaw

Chiropractor

Dr. Abel Shaw is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist with the National Strength and Conditioning Association. He is also a Certified Provider of Active Release Technique. Dr. Shaw attended Logan College of Chiropractic in St. Louis Missouri where he completed his Doctor of Chiropractic degree. He has worked with athletes from the Missouri Baptist University, NAIA championship, women’s track and field team and has been the team chiropractor for Mary Washington University Athletics. Dr. Abel Shaw is an Army veteran and has run both cross-country and track and field at Shippensburg University.

Ryan Donahue

Chiropractor

Dr. Ryan Donahue was born and raised in Sioux City, IA. He attended the University of Iowa where he received a bachelor’s degree in Health and Human Physiology before graduating Magna Cum Laude from Northwestern Health Sciences University as a Doctor of Chiropractic. Dr. Donahue is a Certified Provider of Active Release Technique, RockTape kinesiology tape, and SMART Tools (Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization). He has also had extensive post graduate training in various treatment and rehabilitation approaches that include McKenzie Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy and Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization (DNS).

Brady Thompson

Chiropractor

Dr. Brady Thompson was born and raised in Waverly, IA. He attended Waldorf University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science and Health Promotion and played baseball before continuing his education at Northwestern Health Sciences University, where he graduated with his Doctorate in Chiropractic. Dr. Thompson is committed to a movement-based approach to chiropractic care, focusing on rehabilitation and functional movement to optimize health and performance. He is a Certified Provider of Active Release Technique for the upper extremity and the spine. He is excited to expand his expertise and is actively pursuing certifications in techniques such as Active Release Technique for the lower extremity, SMART Tools (Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization), McKenzie Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy, and Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization (DNS). Dr. Thompson strives to empower individuals to lead healthier, more active lives through a combination of chiropractic care, exercise, and education.

Alexa Nicholson

Office Manager

Alexa is the Office Manager at Shaw Spine and Sport. She grew up in Adel, Iowa, and brings several years of experience in the medical field, along with a strong commitment to providing exceptional patient care. Her goal is to create a welcoming and efficient environment where patients feel valued and supported from the moment they walk through our doors. Alexa takes pride in ensuring the office runs smoothly and seamlessly, allowing both patients and team members to have the best possible experience.

Outside of work, Alexa loves spending time outdoors—whether it’s hiking, ice skating, or dancing. She has a deep adoration for her family's horses and takes every opportunity to ride whenever she can. Additionally, she enjoys discovering new coffee shops, experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen, and unwinding with her favorite movies while cozied up with her dog, Diego. Above all, she cherishes quality time with her significant other and family.

 

Dayna Duve

Patient Experience Representative

Dayna has worked in the healthcare industry for the last 17 years as a Patient Relations Representative for Intermountain Healthcare in Utah, a Patient Service Rep for Providence Healthcare in Oregon, and a Transitional Care Coordinator at Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center in Arizona. She enjoys helping patients navigate through their healthcare experiences. She loves spending time with her family and friends, outdoor activities like hiking and cycling, game nights with family and friends, going to movies and plays, scrapbooking, crafting, and doing running races with her family. 

Jewels Tunney

Patient Experience Representative

Jewels is a graduate of Buena Vista University, where she completed her BA in Fine Art Management, combining her interest in performing and visual arts with a business management background. Her work experience has been in commercial print, retail sales and insurance. Her hobbies include reading, knitting and crochet. Jewels is an avid cyclist, runner and aerial artist. She has run every distance from the mile to a marathon on the streets of Des Moines. She currently trains in the aerial arts at Cirque Wonderland in West Des Moines. She is looking forward to her new adventure in the healthcare field.

Laurel Kelley

Patient Experience Representative

Laurel is an enthusiastic Graphic Design and Media Communications student who has recently made the exciting move from Iowa City to Des Moines. With a rich background in customer service, she brings a unique blend of creativity and interpersonal skills to every opportunity. Laurel is thrilled to dive into her new role at Shaw Spine and Sport, eager to embrace the growth, learning, and challenges this position will offer. 
When she's not working, Laurel can often be found immersing herself in her love for the arts, whether it's sketching or painting, or enjoying a good reality television show. She also relishes the simple pleasure of strolling through Barnes & Noble, a vanilla latte in hand, exploring new books and ideas. Laurel is deeply passionate about creativity, human connection, and constantly seeking new experiences that push her boundaries and fuel her personal and professional growth. Always open to new challenges, she is excited to see where her journey takes her next.
